Chubby on X

Some new AI model performance is reported to be “disappointing” and “did not scale”. What does this mean for the future of AI’s appetite for electricity? It’s uncertain and therefore risky. Risk should not be borne by ratepayers forced to buy power from regulated monopolies. Risk is for private investors who see the opportunity for gain in exchange for the downside.

“Consumer Regulated Electricity” (CRE) would allow investors to build new, independent, competitive, and large-scale utilities to chase the AI opportunity for gain. Investors win by getting access to a rapidly growing market. AI wins by getting access to new, faster moving, innovative, and competitive electricity suppliers. Existing ratepayers win by not being forced to bear the financial risk of an uncertain future.
