Current Debate: Will the Data Center of the Future Be AC or DC?
For a couple of years now we've been using the idea of a "DC utility or grid" as a way of illustrating how a universe of innovation possibilities opens up if it's not connected to existing grids. Well, people are studying "DC" and it brings all kinds of benefits: it's more efficient, it has fewer points of failure, the long-term opex savings are notable, there's less wasted energy, and it's more compatible with solar PV and battery storage. Forcing everything to work exactly the same is usually not such a great idea. To quote an old Apple ad campaign: "Think different."
