"Consumer Regulated Electricity" (CRE) will allow for innovations that simply aren't possible in today's electricity sector. We know that to be true because CRE utilities will be off-grid, where the only constraints on innovation are time, money, and human ingenuity. Moreover, CRE utilities can be designed from a clean sheet of paper for the 21st century. Everything that's grid-connected is severely innovation constrained because of the need for everything to hang together tightly in real-time.
