Survey: Utility leaders say government regulators have key role to play in boosting energy innovation
"...nearly three quarters (72%) of utility leaders surveyed say innovation at their organization is primarily driven by regulation or compliance." When I think of innovation, I don't think of regulation or compliance. Yet we desperately need electricity innovation and the best way to get it is through "Consumer Regulated Electricity" or CRE. CRE would allow for the creation NEW electric utilities ("CRE Utilities") that could develop new supplies and innovate much faster.
CRE Utilities would be capable of greater speed and innovation because they would focus on large, sophisticated buyers (e.g., data centers) and avoid connections to regulated grids. By meeting both of those constraints the need for regulation disappears. At the same time, speed and innovation are unleashed!
