"…the NH Senate's Energy & Natural Resources Committee recently voted 5-0 in favor of HB672
the bill establishes "a new category of 'off-grid electricity providers' in New Hampshire, defined as entities independently generating, transmitting, distributing, or selling electricity without connection to any existing electric transmission or distribution system.."
this is a big deal because it would allow businesses/compute to move fast and be creative when creating production facilities
an interesting potentiality of this would be a miner/AI compute provider building a production facility in the Direct Current ((DC (Tesla)) paradigm instead of the Alternating Current ((AC(Edison)) paradigm dominant in the US grid
DC related equipment has already been leveraged in certain cutting edge computing centers but it costs a lot and is awkward to re-engineer and retro-fit an older AC facility
starting fresh would allow for more flexibility and customization specific to compute and DC specificities
the bill is now on the Senate's consent calendar which means that it is considered non-controversial and likely to pass without debate
hopefully it passes and creates enough momentum that other states pass similar legislation"
Thank you Brett Maverick Musser for drawing attention to this and for first bringing attention to "Consumer Regulated Electricity" in New Hampshire!
