The Worst Automobile in History

Here's a thought exercise about the electricity sector. How did we know whether communist East Germany's auto industry was good or terrible? Because we had the car industries in relatively free market countries for comparison. Now fast forward to today, how do we know whether our electricity sector is good or terrible? Electricity sectors are heavily controlled by governments everywhere so we don't free market sectors for comparison. But what does history tell us about the industries that are heavily controlled by governments, like East Germany's auto industry? What does that suggest about our electricity sector?

"Consumer Regulated Electricity" or CRE would enable free markets within the electricity sector by allowing the creation of new, independent, and competitive electric utilities. Being independent of government control and competitive means that these new "CRE Utilities" would move faster and be far more innovative than is possible by today's sector...or was possible in East Germany's auto industry.
