We’re Not Ready for the AI Power Surge

Will the electricity sector be able to handle the surge? Will the surge in fact be a surge? These are important questions to which no one has answers. One thing we do know is that the electricity sector must move slowly especially when dealing with the large uncertainty of the surge. That's why "Consumer Regulated Electricity" or CRE is an important state-level policy proposal. CRE would allow the building of new, independent, competitive, large-scale utilities focused on the AI surge. These new "CRE Utilities" will have to be fast moving and innovative to win new business. In a CRE world the risk of the surge not being a surge will be borne by private investors, not existing ratepayers or taxpayers.
